autumn is slow coming

here in california it has been REALLY HOT STILL. it might as well still be summer in many respects... but we're finally getting some clouds, even if they aren't consistent, after having almost nothing but clear skies for some months now. open skies make me feel exposed.

the sage is as gorgeous as ever, no matter the season. and the red hot pokers, too, though those don't have blooms ALL the time. i'm always enamored with how fuzzy the leaves are - even when fresh and green, they're still pretty soft! and bees are always buzzing around it until the cool temps arrive.

we have some gorgeous maple trees, some of which are turning to their standard reddish colors(i think they're the 'amber' variety?). some of them are still green, though, and i can't remember if that's due to the variety or not. it's nostalgic looking up at the sun through them. i used to lay in a hammock beneath the one pictured above and listen to ambient electronic (troika, i think).
